About Us

Headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, ASI Technologies, Inc. has been a leading manufacturer of high performance door systems for the food and beverage, the industrial and municipal, and the clean environment markets for over 40 years.

ASI (Arthur Smith Industries) was established in 1965 by Arthur Smith III, grandson of the founder of the A.O. Smith Corporation. Mr. Smith began manufacturing cooler and freezer doors made of fiberglass for the food industry, under the ENVIRO®  brand name. Fiberglass doors had the advantage of being strong, lightweight and easy to clean. But the company’s growth did not occur until it was purchased by George Balbach in 1974. At that time, ASI was the only U.S. manufacturer of fiberglass doors for the food industry.

In 1981, ASI responded to another market demand, and patented a hydraulically powered door operation system that vastly improved the speed and reliability of its automatic doors. By 1984, sales increased to four million dollars. Outgrowing its current facility, the company moved into a new 55,000 sq. ft. office and manufacturing facility, located at 5848 N. 95th Court, Milwaukee, where it resides today.

ASI is the leading manufacturer of ENVIRO cold storage doors, providing cooler and freezer doors in a wide variety of styles and materials: infitting hinged doors; single and bi-parting horizontal sliding doors; vertical rise doors; and bi-folding panel doors. In 1999 the new “PRO” series was added to the Enviro line in response to the market for a high performance, economical line of doors.

The MARATHON® line was established in 1985 to sell high speed doors to the industrial market using a nationwide network of distributors. Marathon doors are used in commercial and industrial manufacturing and warehouse applications. They are designed to improve material flow, lower maintenance costs, reduce energy costs, and increase productivity.

The development of a new cleanroom door began when the company landed a 100-door project at a major pharmaceutical company in the late 1980’s. This new door system began its evolution on succeeding projects, when cleanroom managers from around the world provided continual input for improved design ideas.

Introduced in 1994, CLEANSEAL® clean environment door systems immediately became the new industry standard. They combined the unique ASI seamless fiberglass and stainless steel door panel, stainless steel frame and header, full-perimeter gasket, and variable-frequency electric operator. In 1996, CleanSeal doors underwent airborne particulate count testing which rated them suitable for clean environment applications as low as Class 1. CleanSeal doors are available in sliding or swinging door styles designed specifically where clean production requirements are critical. End users include the top-twenty pharmaceutical companies worldwide, as well as other industries in areas where particulate counts are carefully controlled.

In 2001 the ENVIRO AirSeal® air door was introduced revolutionizing the material handling function in coolers and freezers throughout the food industry. With no maintenance, no downtime, and no waiting time, the AirSeal air door is becoming the product of choice in all major food processing facilities.

2003 was a year of high technology and unmatched solutions in the door industry with the introduction of the ENVIRO IXP™ Impactable Door. Nowhere in the industry has a door with these outstanding features been so well received by the marketplace. Responding to the number one concern in many cooler distribution and processing centers, damaged door systems, ASI has designed a hard panel insulated door system that can be hit from either direction and return to its normal operating position within seconds.

Also in 2003 ASI received a “GSA” vendor number to provide high security door systems to government and municipal facilities.  With its newest upgrades, it has become the superior roll-up security door system. Available in custom designs and sizes allows it to fit almost any application. Its speed and security features make it the unmatched homeland security door.
