MANUFACTURING ENGINEER

SUMMARY:  Reporting to the General Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer champions various production improvement, quality enhancement and new product integration projects.  Projects will vary in scope from setting up new production lines and equipment to minor process adjustments.

DUTIES:

  • Evaluate and set up existing manufacturing processes for cost reductions, quality improvements and flow optimization.
  • Provide shop floor support on current manufacturing processes.
  • Layout and set up manufacturing processes for new product designs.
  • Source, test and specify capital equipment, work-stations, and tools.
  • Create and train on JIB’s (Job Instruction Breakdowns).
  • Provide design for manufacturing (DFM) input.
  • Design fixtures, jigs, and other work holding devices.
  • Plan work cells including safety, line balancing, inventory locations, efficient flow and ergonomics.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial technology or related field preferred.  Direct experience in a similar role with a track record of success will be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a similar role.
  • Minimum of 5 years working in a manufacturing environment.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS ETC:

  • Requires knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment.  Direct experience in sheet metal fabrication, welding, commercial product assembly, and or fiberglass layup is preferred.
  • Able to read prints and understand dimensioning including GD&T and tolerance stacking.
  • Requires computer literacy to use email, access MRP data, create and modify text documents and spreadsheets.
  • Preferred proficiency in CAD, both 2D and 3D.
  • Experience/training in lean process tools.  Value stream mapping (VSM), Process mapping, cellular design, one-piece flow, DFM, TQM
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Promotes and supports teamwork.
